INSIDE THE APPOINTMENT

A DETAILED OVERVIEW OF WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR MICROBLADING APPOINTMENT

The microblading appointment takes about 2 hours. We start with a consultation where we discuss how you'd like your brows to look, what your problem areas are, and talk about any fears or concerns you may be experiencing so I can put you at ease before we start. It’s a good idea to wear your eyebrows to your appointment how you daily fill/wear them, because it gives me a great visual on how you are used to seeing yourself. Next I'll take your before photos, then I'll carefully measure and map out your perfect brows. Measuring is a specific "equation" for each specific face shape, and I start there, but rules are sometimes meant to be broken, so if you want anything different than it "should" be, then I work with you to achieve exactly how you want them to look. This will take anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour of the appointment. Once you're happy, I'll apply numbing cream to your brows, then custom mix your perfect brow color.

Once you've numbed for 15 minutes, we start the procedure! Microblading takes around 45-60 minutes, during which I will carefully and precisely draw on each eyebrow "hair". I go back and forth between each brow as I build and layer the strokes, being very careful to be sure that your eyebrows match each other as closely as possible. As I work, I continue to re-apply numbing cream to keep you completely comfortable.

My most frequently asked question is "does it hurt?" The best way to describe the sensation is like scratching a sunburn, or just an irritating feeling. Most of my clients are completely numb and don't feel anything. I've even had some women take a nap. If you watch the video below, you'll see my client (who happens to be my sister!) smiling and relaxed while I'm microblading her.

What to expect when your appointment is done: when your procedure is over, your eyebrows will be darker and bolder than they will be once they are healed. Some people leave with slight redness, most have no redness or obvious negative signs of the procedure. I have my clients wash their eyebrows and apply Aquaphor ointment (I provide you with Dial Gold soap and ointment packets) for the week following the appointment, which eliminates almost all scabbing, which means a much easier healing process. You can easily go back to your daily routine; no hiding out while you wait for your brows to scab and shed. Also worth noting, you will be able to shower and wash your hair; I've had women come in prepared to not shower for the next week, because they were misinformed that they would need to keep their healing brows dry for 7 days. Not true! You will apply a thick layer of ointment to your brows to create a barrier to protect them from the shower spray.

The first few days after your appointment, your brows will become dark; the pigment is still exposed to the air, so the color oxidizes. The color settles and around a week your brows may almost "disappear" in color because your skin is now healed over the pigment. It takes a few days to a few weeks for the pigment to "migrate" back to the surface to reveal the final color of your new brows. A touch up between 6 and 12 weeks is a MUST, as microblading is a two-part process. We will assess how you've healed, fill in any strokes that may have been lost, make any changes to your shape or color, and make sure you are completely satisfied. Microblading lasts about 1-3 years, depending on your skin type and how you care for them during the healing process.

This is a very brief summary of my after care requirements. I will go over your healing process and what to expect in greater detail at your appointment time.

The 6 week touch up is a quicker version of the first appointment. I will re-map your brows again, numb you, and touch up any strokes that shrank down or went missing as you healed. If your color healed light for you and you’d like to go darker, I will carefully go over each stroke to deepen the color. The touch up takes approximately 1 1/2 hours. All of the pre-appointment requirements for the first appointment apply to the touch up.

Your aftercare will be the same after your touch up as it was for your first appointment. At this point, the vast majority of my clients heal perfectly and are set for the next year or more. However a small percent of my clients may need a third touch up. Sometimes accidents happen during healing - you could scratch a stroke off while you’re sleeping, rub your brows not thinking about it, splash something in your face, etc. If you feel like you need a third touch up, please contact me and I can schedule you in.

My very oily skinned clients may be on a brow journey with me. The oils in the skin are constantly working to push out the pigment in the skin, so frequent touch ups to keep the color fresh should be expected and planned for as the pigment fades much faster in this skin type.

“Yearly” touch ups is a loose phrase for me. If your color still looks great a year out, please don’t make an appointment to come in just because it has been a year. If your color last to two years or beyond, I’d be so thrilled to not see you back until you need it. Once your color is faded and needs a boost, that is the time to book your yearly touch up.
